How to play
You're the fielding captain for the last five overs of a real T20 run chase. Every decision is graded on how it changed your side's chance of winning.
Each over
- Choose your bowler. Each bowler can bowl four overs, and nobody bowls two in a row. You're graded against every bowler you could have picked.
- Set your field for each ball. Tap a fielder, then an empty spot. Up to five fielders can be on the boundary and up to two behind square on the leg side. Or pick a preset: standard, ring or attacking.
- Choose the delivery, every ball: for pace, yorker, wide yorker, good length, slower ball or bouncer; for spin, stock ball, flighted, quicker and flatter, wide of off, or his variation (the carrom ball, googly or arm ball, depending on how he bowls). Harder balls to hit are harder to land, and a miss comes out as a different length: a missed yorker is a full toss or a half-volley.
- Watch it play out. The ball is simulated from the real players' records. Use Skip if you're in a hurry, or Replay to watch again.
Grades
| Colour | Bowler choice | Each ball |
|---|---|---|
| Green | The best call, or within the simulation's margin of it | The best call, or within the simulation's margin of it |
| Yellow | Within two points | Within one point |
| Orange | Two to five points | One to two and a half points |
| Red | More than five points | More than two and a half points |
Points are points of win chance. One ball moves a chase less than a choice of bowler, so ball grades use tighter bands.
There's no autopilot: no single delivery is the right call most of the time. Batters have real strengths and weaknesses in the data (against pace or spin, left-arm or right-arm, full or short), and a field that doesn't suit the delivery leaves gaps. Luck still plays its part: the wrong field can get away with it, and the right one can still be beaten.
Any grade that isn't green comes with a one-line reason: the boundary and wicket chances of your ball against the best one, or why another bowler was the better pick. You're graded on the decision, not the luck. A great call can still go for six.
Your record
After each daily game you'll see your record: games played, how often you defended, your current and best streak, your share of best calls, and how your bowling changes compare with the real captain's. It's stored on your device, so it stays private.
