Who we are
5overs is run by JF Ventures Ltd, company number 17532754, 149 Hurlingham Road, London, SW6 3NH ("we"). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact us at [email protected].
The short version
You can play without an account, and we don't ask for your name or email. Your game progress stays on your own device. We use a few service providers to run the site, and, if ads are on, Google to show them.
What we collect and why
Game progress on your device
Your daily results, Classics progress and settings (sound and speed) are saved in your browser's local storage so they're still there next time. This stays on your device; we don't receive it. Clear your browser's site data to delete it.
Hosting and security
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web server, Cloudflare processes your IP address, browser details and the pages you request so it can deliver the site and protect it from attacks. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.
When you play, the game sends anonymous events to our server: which mode and puzzle you played, the result, your grades, whether you copied your result, the country you're in (from Cloudflare) and details of any error the page hit. We don't store your IP address, and the events contain no name, account, cookie or device identifier.
So we can count players without identifying anyone, the game keeps a small note on your device: the date you first played, the date you last played and how many days you've played. When you start a game, it sends whether this is your first game today, this week or this month, that first-played date, your number of days played, and whether you arrived from a shared result or another website (the site's name only). This lets us count daily, weekly and monthly players and how many come back, without any ID.
We use these events to fix bugs, improve the game, show how other players did on each puzzle and report overall player numbers (never anything about an individual). Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running and improving the game.

Advertising
We show ads from Google AdSense. In the UK and EEA, we ask for your consent before Google or its partners use cookies or similar technology for personalised advertising. If you don't consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for things like frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement. You can change your choice at any time using "Privacy settings" at the bottom of every page. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
If you contact us
If you email us, we use your email address and message to reply, and keep them for up to two years unless you ask us to delete them sooner. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering you, or taking steps towards a contract for sponsorship enquiries.
If you support the game
Payments are handled by our payment provider, which shares your name, email address and payment amount with us. We use these to manage your support and meet our accounting duties, and keep them for six years for tax purposes. We never see your card details.
Who we share data with
Cloudflare (hosting, security and analytics), Google (advertising), our email provider and our payment provider. Some of them process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, transfers are covered by the UK–US data bridge or other safeguards approved under UK law.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it or ask us to restrict it. Email [email protected]. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
5overs is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We'll update this page if anything changes and show the date at the top.
